About Contact Systems, Inc.

Contact Systems

Founded in 1970, Contact Systems, Inc. has produced a variety of machines for the electronic industry. We are best known for our model CS-400 Cut & Clinch machine, of which more than 3000 have been sold. All manufacturing, administrative and service activities are conducted in our 42,000 square foot facility located in Danbury, Connecticut.

In 1993, Contact Systems, Inc. entered the SMT market with the Contact 3 Series Surface Mount Pick and Place machine. The 3 Series is the machine of choice for small to medium size contract manufactures and OEM’s. In 2005, we introduced our line of placement machines the C5 Series that were designed to serve not only our traditional customers, but also larger, high volume manufactures. In 2007 we introduced a new generation of the C5 Pick and Place Machines, which include 10 models to cover a vast range of SMT manufacturing requirements.  All models are built on the same platform with rugged construction you have come to expect from our Contact Systems.

Product History

1970 CS-100 Contact Systems introduces the first vertical, open-frame, semi-automatic wire wrapping machine. Over the years many have tried to improve the elegantly simple design but none has succeeded. The CS-100 has proven to be the most imitated and popular wire wrapping machine on the market.

1983 CS-400A Contact Systems delivered the first CS-400A Cut and Clinch machine.

1984 SC-400B Contact Systems launches the ergonomically designed CS-400B Cut and Clinch machine with mechanically adjustable lead length and clinch angle.

1985 CS-302 Contact Systems introduces its first CS-302 series automatic Dip inserter.

1988 CS-400C Contact Systems introduces the CS-400C. The CS-400C provides a new cutter design with a miniature footprint. The 400C also included a built-in projection microscope and automatic skew correction.

1989 SC-500 Contact Systems enters the Surface Mount arena with its first machine the CS-500.

1990 CS-400D Contact Systems introduces the CS-400D. The 400D machine is the first Contact machine to include our ultra clinch mechanism with an all new, re-designed cut and clinch mechanism. Also during 1990 Contact launches our optional component verifier.

1992 CS-400E Contact Systems introduces the CS-400E. The added color touch screen monitor provides the operator with ease of programming. The 400E today is still one of our top selling machines.

1993 CS-3 Contact Systems introduces the Contact 3, the first low cost machine Surface Mount placement machine that offered 100% vision centering.

1995 CS-3AV Contact Systems introduces the CS-3S & CS-3AV. Both machines built on the 3 platform with the addition of backlighting and smart feeders. The 3-AV offered a closed loop high-speed DC servo drive positioning system which added extreme accuracy required for Ultra Fine Pitch placements.

1997 CS-3AVX Contact Systems releases the CS-3SX & CS-3AVX. The major differences between the previous two models was a re-design of the covers and CE compatible (European Safety Standards)

1999 CS-3Z Contact Systems releases the CS-3Z. The CS-3Z was the first machine in its class to offer use of linear motors on the “X” axis and AC servo on the “Y” axis. The Z also offered an independent servo driven “Z” axis. Both axes used non-contact linear encoders.

2005 C5 Contact Systems introduces our newest SMT platform. The C5 platform has been designed to provide our customers a single machine solution with the flexibility to place the entire range of component types and sizes

2007 C5 Line Contact Systems launches our advanced C5 Pick and Place line. The advanced line includes four models and 10 configurations to cover a vast range of SMT manufacturing requirements. All models are built on the same platform with rugged construction you have come to expect from our Contact Systems.
